Eligibility
In brief, natives and residents. According to UKA rule G2 S6, this encompasses:
a) any individual born in Berkshire OR with 9 months continuous bona fide residence in Berkshire prior to the date of the race (this includes HM Forces stationed in Berkshire)
AND
b) who has not competed for any other county, or in any other county championships, during the competition year.
(The full UKA rules may be accessed from here.)
“Berkshire” no longer exists as a political or administrative entity but, for present purposes, as defined on the Home Page of this site, it consists of the Unitary Authority areas of Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor & Maidenhead, and Wokingham.
Championship Entry
Please follow this link to enter the championship. You only need to do this once for the season, and the results from all championship races you run after your entry date will be included in the championship for the year.
There is no fee to enter the Berkshire AA championship.
Championship Races
The chosen races are published on the Berkshire AA website. It is the responsibility of runners to ensure that they have properly entered each of the hosting races they will be competing in.
Communication & Use of Details
All direct communication will be by email. Your email address will only be used as a means to contact you regarding this championship. Your data will not be sold, or otherwise passed on, to other parties, or used for any form of marketing.
Championship Prizes
Berkshire County AA medals are awarded to the first 3 Championship finishers in each age category:
- male – under 40, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 & 80+
- female – under 35, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74 & 75+
For the purposes of this championship, an athlete’s age category is fixed for the entire season, determined by their age on the date of the first race within the series, or the date on which the window for marathon results is opened, whichever is earlier.
NOTE: These age groups apply to the Berkshire Championships for all races, regardless of those used by race organisers for their own overall race categorisation.
“Gun time” vs. “Chip Time”
From 2018 we will be using chip time for the allocation of medals and points. Although current worldwide standard for statistical rankings at the elite level is that gun-tape times should be used. UK athletics recognises however that in large-scale road races there can be a significant difference between the official gun time and the chip time which is a more accurate representation of the time a competitor actually took to complete the course.
Medals & Trophies
The top 10 runners in each category of each championship race score ten points for first down to one point for tenth towards the series trophy. At the end of the season, the best 5 scores achieved by each runner will be totalled, and the highest scoring runner in each category will receive a trophy. In the event of a draw, head-to-head results will be taken into account.
Results & Medals tables will be made available on the Berkshire Athletics website as soon as possible after each race.
Medals and trophies will be presented at the County AGM (usually in November). If runners are unable to attend, then medals & trophies will be passed to a club representative for onward distribution. Cost constraints prevent us from posting medals and trophies to individuals.
