  • Road Running Championship 2026

Berkshire Athletics Road Running Championship races are incorporated into scheduled road races staged in, or as near as practicable to, the county.

For 2026, 5 races are nominated covering distances from 5 km to half-marathon.
In addition, runners are invited to submit times for any certified marathon that they run between 1st March and October 31st to rr.berkshireathletics.org.uk, where they will be collated and points & medals awarded at the end of the season.

The races for the 2026 Championship are as follows:

For each race, medals will be awarded for the first three finishers in each age and sex category, with points also awarded for the overall Championship Trophy. For the points championship, the best 5 scores will count (from a possible 6 races).

Results will be published on the Berkshire Athletics website, with links also published to the Berkshire Athletics Facebook page.

Medals and trophies will be presented at the Berkshire Athletics AGM which is held in November.

How to enter the Road Running Championships?

Click here to fill in the entry form.

You should receive an email confirming your entry after submitting the form.

You only need to enter the Championship once per year, and your results will be picked up and included in the championship for all the races that are held after the date of your championship entry.

Questions relating to eligibility and championship rules are covered below, but if you have any questions please email rr@berkshireathletics.org.uk.

    ————————————————————————————————————————————

In brief, natives and residents. According to UKA rule G2 S6, this encompasses:
    a) any individual born in Berkshire OR with 9 months continuous bona fide residence in Berkshire prior to the date of the race (this includes HM Forces stationed in Berkshire)
    AND
    b) who has not competed for any other county, or in any other county championships, during the competition year.
(The full UKA rules may be accessed from here.)

“Berkshire” no longer exists as a political or administrative entity but, for present purposes, as defined on the Home Page of this site, it consists of the Unitary Authority areas of Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor & Maidenhead, and Wokingham.

Please follow this link to enter the championship. You only need to do this once for the season, and the results from all championship races you run after your entry date will be included in the championship for the year.
There is no fee to enter the Berkshire AA championship.

The chosen races are published on the Berkshire AA website. It is the responsibility of runners to ensure that they have properly entered each of the hosting races they will be competing in.

All direct communication will be by email. Your email address will only be used as a means to contact you regarding this championship. Your data will not be sold, or otherwise passed on, to other parties, or used for any form of marketing.

Berkshire County AA medals are awarded to the first 3 Championship finishers in each age category:

    • Under 40, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 & 80+

For the purposes of this championship, an athlete’s age category is fixed for the entire season, determined by their age on the date of the first race within the series, or the date on which the window for marathon results is opened, whichever is earlier.

NOTE: These age groups apply to the Berkshire Championships for all races, regardless of those used by race organisers for their own overall race categorisation.

From 2018 we will be using chip time for the allocation of medals and points. Although current worldwide standard for statistical rankings at the elite level is that gun-tape times should be used. UK athletics recognises however that in large-scale road races there can be a significant difference between the official gun time and the chip time which is a more accurate representation of the time a competitor actually took to complete the course.

The top 10 runners in each category of each championship race score ten points for first down to one point for tenth towards the series trophy. At the end of the season, the best 5 scores achieved by each runner will be totalled, and the highest scoring runner in each category will receive a trophy. In the event of a draw, head-to-head results will be taken into account.

Results & Medals tables will be made available on the Berkshire Athletics website as soon as possible after each race.

Medals and trophies will be presented at the County AGM (usually in November). If runners are unable to attend, then medals & trophies will be passed to a club representative for onward distribution. Cost constraints prevent us from posting medals and trophies to individuals.

  • Berkshire Road Running Championship 2025 – Final Standings

127 people entered the Berkshire Road Running Championship this year, competing in 4 races from 5 miles to half-marathon, plus any marathon of their choosing. Competition was tight, with in one case the difference between overall gold & silver being literally 8 seconds over the marathon distance, but I’m pleased to say that 71 people from 16 different clubs won medals across the season. These medals will be presented at the Berkshire Athletics AGM at 7:30pm on 24th November at the Bracknell AC clubhouse.

  • Cut-off for marathon result submission approaching

    Congratulations to all the winners.

As you are aware the post of Road Running Secretary is currently vacant. This year’s champs were administered temporarily by Sue Francis of Reading AC, however, she is unable to take the role on permanently due to her club commitments. The committee would like to thank Sue for ensuring the road running champs could happen in 2024.

We are looking for someone from within our road running community to take on the role. If a replacement cannot be found there will be no road running championships in 2025 and beyond. The role is not too time consuming, further information about the role can be obtained from Sue who can be contacted on rr@berkshireathletics.org.uk.
