Report: This season’s cross country championships were held at Newbury Agricultural showground and hosted by Team Kennet. It was the first time the championships had been held at this venue, and it was the first time Team Kennet had hosted the event. The event went off very smoothly and thanks go to Colin Price and his team from Team Kennet for all their help, plus Newbury & District Agricultural Society for allowing the championships to be held there. Thank you to the Berkshire A.A team of officials who made sure everything went very smoothly indeed, and to the results team who had all the results out in no time at all. This year we had to find a new sponsor at very short notice, a big thank you goes to THE GREENHAM COMMON TRUST for their generous support. This enabled us to purchase the waterproof race numbers, and also nearly cover the cost of the First Aid. The number of athletes taking part was slightly down on last year’s event from 233 down to 221. This was made up from 111 female athletes and 110 male athletes. The medals were awarded as follows:

The Berkshire
squad enjoyed a good day at Birmingham.
Congratulations go to Hope Goddard who finished 2nd in the under 13 Girls race and the under 13 team of Grace Goddard 5th, Alexandra Barbour 27th and Amy Bowers 37th, who came 3rd out of the 41 teams. Nicole Swaffield made a very impressive debut at the championships when placed 6th in the under 17 Women’s race. Jonathan Davies was the highest placed of the Berkshire male athletes, he ran well to finish 12th in the under 17 Men’s with the team also doing very well to come 5th out of 42 teams. It was very pleasing to finish teams in all but the under 20 Women’s event, where we were just two runners short of a team. I would like to thank all the Berkshire athletes who competed and supported the teams so well. Thank you to the coaches who helped look after the younger athletes on the day.
