Sportshall National Finals NEC Birmingham 3rd April 2011 Berkshire U15 Girls, representing the South East Region and competing at the National Sportshall finals for the first time, produced a magnificent series of performances to become national champions. In each of the 4 field events Berkshire had at least one girl in the top 5 - a magnificent tribute to the development of all round athletes by the clubs represented on the county team. Lukesha Morris came 2nd in the vertical jump; Morgan Lake and Amy Holder were 1st and 5th in the shot respectively; Codie Burnett won bronze in the speed bounce and Morgan Lake won the standing long jump. Whilst these medal winning performances set the standard for the overall victory it was the magnificent performances of the second and third athletes in each of these field events displaying real strength in depth of all round athletic ability that led to overall team victory. There were new personal best performances throughout the team most notably by both team captain Amy Holder and Morgan Lake in the shot In the individual track events Morgan Lake and Laura Hindley, both eligible to compete again next year, were 3rd and 6th respectively. In the 2 laps Katie Hannawin, also still young enough to compete next year was the fastest girl winning gold with Lukesha Morris close in 4th. In the must win team track events the girls were simply magnificent. Laura Hindley and Morgan Lake ran themselves into the ground in winning the gruelling 8 lap Paarlauf race with sensational final laps. In the 4x2 lap relay with arch rival Surry in the adjacent lane our team (Tayla Benson, Codie Burnett, Katie Hannawin and Lukesha Morris) produced a superb example of well drilled baton hand offs combined with sheer determination to produce a winning performance and seal the overall team victory. The joy and delight of an outstanding team performance was added to when we learnt at the end of the afternoon of an outstanding double by Berkshire as Morgan Lake was rewarded for her efforts throughout the afternoon with 1st place in the All Rounder competition.
Aviva South East Regional SportsHall Final Sunday 13th February 2011 Report from Conrad Rowland (Team Manager)
The U13 teams
gave a good show of themselves - there
were many 1st year U13 athletes on both the boys and the girls
team and all acquitted themselves admirably. The boys came 5th
and the girls came 4th overall - individually amongst the boys
James Brownless (RAC) won the high jump; Jamie Barnett (SJAC)
was 3rd in the shot and Morris Nganga (SJAC) was 2nd in the 4
laps and 3rd in the vertical jump.......in the girls Amy
Herrington (RAC) was 2nd in the shot; Jess Gilkes (RAC) 3rd in
the 2 laps......and a real bonus and special mention should be
made of Shannon Stevenson who is currently unattached but who
came through on to the team via the secondary schools county
final a couple of weeks ago a great effort coming 4th in the
vertical jump
U15 Boys 3rd overall - well ahead of the 4th placed team. Individually Sam Randall (TK) won the 4 laps and the Paarlauf and was 20th in the all rounder; Joe Watson (SJAC) won the shot and was 15th= in the all rounder; Keenan Morris (RAC) won the standing long jump 15th= in the all rounder; Fraser Rose (SJAC) had a 4th=, 5th and 5th= in the individual events and came 4th overall in the all rounder as well as running with Sam to win the Paarlauf - so some good performances there. James Dash and Alex Keys (both MAC) tried really hard throughout the day but the year age group difference really did tell on both of them - I hope the experience was good for them ahead of next year. Keenan is also eligible from this team for next years' U15 team so we can hope for good things to come from the 3 of them. U15 Girls A team that I have been looking forward to seeing on the day delivered as hoped for.......they worked brilliantly as a team and WON! Individually Amy Holder (RAC) was 2nd in the shot and 14th overall; Codie Burnett (TK) 2nd= in speed bounce 15th overall; Georgina Westwood (RAC) 1st 4 laps, 3rd shot 2nd overall; Katie Hannawin (RAC) 1st 2 laps, 3rd standing long jump 7th overall; Lukesha Morris (RAC) 1st vertical jump 8th overall; Laura Hindley (SJAC) 3rd 4 laps 33rd overall - with Tayla Benson (RAC) stepping into the 4 x 2 lap relay team which the girls won after having also won the 8 lap paarlauf.........it was that close with Surrey - who have seem to win this event most years - that we had to win both the Paarlauf and the relay to be sure of winning overall - and the girls were simply fantastic- not putting a foot wrong in either and with some exemplary hand offs in the relays.......first time we have had a Berkshire U15 team at the national finals..........
The U15 Girls team along with James
Brownless (RAC - U13 Boys high Jump), Sam Randall (TK - U15 Boys
4 laps) and Joe Watson (SJAC - U15 Boys Shot) will now be
competing at the National Finals in Birmingham on Sunday 3rd
April.

Aviva South East Regional SportsHall Final Sunday 16th January 2011
Boys The 15 athlete team was made up of 6 athletes from Reading AC, 2 from Maidenhead AC and 7 from Slough Junior AC. They won 5 of the 8 track events and 1 of the field events; came second in 1 track event and 2 field events. Overall the boys team won the event scoring 447 points, 26 points ahead of the team that came second. This is the first time the county has won this event so it was not only a fantastic afternoon of SportsHall athletics but a great result.
Girls The 15 athlete girls team was made up of 1 athlete from Maidenhead AC and 1 from Team Kennet , 7 from Reading AC and 6 from Slough Junior AC. The girls won 2 of the track events and came second in another. They won 2 of the field events, were joint first in another and came second in a further 2. Overall the girls scored 429 points to end the afternoon second, the winning team from Hampshire scoring 442 points. This is the 4th time in the last 6 years that the girls have been placed 2nd so they have done the county proud. Special mention should be made of the support that we had on the day from parents, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts and other extended family members - it was vociferous, polite, educated, informed - wonderful. And also to the support we had from parents in officiating in the field events.
